Help (Icons)

Am playing castle of the winds now, is unbearable graphically but is as addictive as hell. one problem, i made my own character icon with the microangelo program, but can't get it to work properly. I can start my game and have my custom icon as my character, but when i save my game and try loading again, it gives me an error message saying "Warning: Low Local Memory, Freeing Description Strings", then another one saying "Can't Load Icon"...and my game loads fine, but with my smart custom character icon replaced with the crappy original half-naked spandex-wearing cheesy icon from before. i've tried bringing my icon back at the "character" screen, but it won't work. HELP! I'm sick of seeing this smug little naked bastard in blue pants grinning at me

Be sure you save it as a non-animated 16-colour icon, not one of those fancy 256-colour icons.

Funny how a little bit of frustration even after all these years requires such a simple solution.

Make certain that you are running your display in 256-color mode. This game tends to freak out at higher color modes, and is the primary reason it fails.

This also means that anything better than the default 16-color Windows palette is out of the question.  Hooray for ugly icons. :|

In Windows 3.1, this means exiting to the DOS prompt (Or its DOSBox equivalent) and running setup.exe, then changing your video to the resolution you want, but with 256 colors. Then it should be fine.
