Castle Of The Winds on GBA. Possible?

Hello Everyone,

First time posting here. Glad to see the Castle of the Winds community is alive and well, even after so many years.

To get the ball rolling: I'm into emulation of older games and systems on the newer systems of today. 8-bit NES on GBA, 16-bit SNES on PSX...etc...etc.
For a long time now i've had a list of games, both classic console and pc, that i'd like to see either ported directly to a new system, or redone totally on a newer system.

Castle of the Winds is one of biggest names on my list.

It continues to amaze me just how ahead-of-it's-time COTW was. It wasn't until games like Diablo, did we see any kind of random generation of game mechanics en-masse. It's a shame that there wasn't a "Castle Of The Winds 2", or something. Even if it wasn't a direct continuation of the original storyline, another game of this type from it's author would have been recieved well by me, and probably, many others here.

In Conclusion: I just wanted to raise my hand and say that I would gladly support a port of this game to Gameboy Advance, in either a freeware or retail fashon. Nevermind how old it is, i'd gladly pay for it again just to be able to play this great game on-the-go. I don't know if the author would be willing, or able, to provide source code to facilitate such a venture, but here's one man that's holding out hope.
Until next time...

There was a Castle of The Winds Part II - Lifhrasir's Bane. Some fan you are...

I'm afraid this game is nothing but a memory, it was abandoned years ago and put up for free distribution. A game boy version? ha...ha ha. GBA is dead, anyways. Right now the Nintendo DS is in. You can download both parts I and II at http://vengeance.et.tudelft.nl/cow/

I currently working on part III with RPG maker, but it will never capture the magic of randomly created dungeons, monsters, and items. I do, however, plan to incorporate the one thing that the game was really deprived of - humor. This new creation may please some people, and piss off some traditionalists. We'll just have to see...

Has anyone heard of the Castle of the Winds Multiplayer game in the making? I'm curious to see how that one will pan out. According to the web site, the game is completed, but there isn't much for players to do yet. Here are some screenshots:

Hopefully devoted fans will help to breathe new life into this classic game! I can't wait to see this online game. Sounds promising.

To: Anonymous - Actually, what I meant when I said "Castle of the Winds 2", was a sequel to the first 2 installments. I should have clarified just exactly what I meant, thanks for the headsup.

A) Working on a third installment yourself? Well, best of luck to you. I tried out a couple "RPG Making" programs a few years back. Never had the patience for them, sadly.

B) As for the GBA being dead, I disagree. The Homebrew scene has never been stronger, with the releace of better flash cards and programming utilities. That's why I mentioned the COTW source code in my previous post.

C) As for you mentioning a multiplayer version of COTW - I never heard anything about it until you mentioned it. It'll be intresting to see how things pan out with that.

Until next time...

I think you'd be better off getting a psp running a x86 emulator, and play it though win95.

I don't see it being ported anytime soon because it takes alot of effort.

I hope it's possible. Big graphic games are fun and all with all the flashing lights and loud noises but games like CoW are amusing for their content.

Also, for things like PDAs and other handheld devices where you can store games on you're memory a game like CoW would be perfect.

That's cool... I'm working on re-making the original on my RPGM2K. It won't be the same... but it'll have better graphics and a different battle system.

Same as what you said... it'll piss off traditionalists, and please some.
